In 2025, the Downers Grove Fire Department responded to more than 8,000 service calls.

When the community calls for help, the Downers Grove Fire Department is ready, 24 hours a day - each and every day. And in 2025, that commitment was on full display as firefighter/paramedics responded to more than 8,000 calls for service. 

Behind every one of those calls is a team dedicated to protecting lives, property, and the overall well-being of Downers Grove. The numbers tell an important story about how the Fire Department serves the community today.

  1. 62% (5,069 calls) – Rescue and Emergency Medical Services 
  2. 15% (1,258 calls) – Service calls, i.e. person in distress, smoke or odor problem, water leakage problem
  3. 13% (1,080 calls) – False alarms 
  4. 6% (468 calls) – Good intent calls, i.e. mutual aid, steam or other gas mistaken for smoke 
  5. 4% (283 calls) – Hazardous conditions


While fire suppression remains a critical service, the majority of calls are medical related, highlighting the Fire Department’s vital role in emergency medical care and rapid response. 

In recent years, the Fire Department has experienced a steady increase in call volume, reflecting the evolving needs of those who live, work or visit in Downers Grove. Through it all, the team continues to deliver the high level of service the community expects.

Fire Chief Scott Spinazola emphasized that commitment, stating:

“The Fire Department places a strong emphasis on the health and safety of the public and our team members. This commitment not only protects those we serve but also enhances our ability to provide exceptional service. Excellent service is a core expectation for both the residents and visitors of Downers Grove, and we are proud to uphold that standard every day.”
