The Downers Grove Police Department has once again earned Advanced Accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), one of the most respected and recognized law enforcement credentialing organizations in the nation.

"This achievement belongs to every member of the Department whose dedication and professionalism make Downers Grove a safe and stronger community," said Chief Mike DeVries.
The Downers Grove Police Department has once again earned Advanced Accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), one of the most respected and recognized law enforcement credentialing organizations in the nation. This is the Department’s eighth award for reaccreditation since earning accreditation in 2003.

Advanced Accreditation is CALEA's highest level of achievement and requires compliance with more than 450 professional standards that represent national best practices in law enforcement. The accreditation process evaluates policies, procedures, operations, training, community engagement, and accountability measures to ensure that agencies provide the highest level of service to the communities they serve.
For residents, the designation serves as independent verification that the Downers Grove Police Department operates in accordance with nationally recognized standards for professionalism, transparency, accountability, and community-oriented policing.
"I'm pleased to announce that our Police Department has once again been awarded Advanced Accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies," said Mayor Bob Barnett. "This achievement reflects the department's unwavering commitment to excellence and reinforces the trust our residents place in their police department every day.”
In its accreditation report, CALEA reviewers specifically highlighted the Department's strong relationships throughout the community, noting that coordinated outreach efforts have strengthened public trust and fostered meaningful partnerships with residents, schools, civic organizations, and social service agencies.
The report stated that these efforts contribute to "a safe, connected and engaged community where law enforcement and residents work together to support a thriving Downers Grove."
Chief Mike DeVries said the recognition reflects the department's commitment to continuous improvement and community service.
"CALEA accreditation is much more than an assessment of policies and procedures," said DeVries. "It represents our commitment to providing professional and transparent police services while building strong relationships with the community we serve. This achievement belongs to every member of the Department whose dedication and professionalism make Downers Grove a safe and stronger community."
CALEA Accreditation is the mark of professional excellence.
Congratulations to the entire Downers Grove Police Department on this significant achievement.
