Police Warn of Phone Scam

Be aware of what to do if you receive a suspicious phone call.
On March 9, 2026, the Downers Grove Police Department responded to a report of a possible phone scam. The victim received a phone call from a person identifying themself as a Downers Grove police officer, requesting payment of several thousand dollars in order to resolve a so-called legal matter. Luckily, before making the payment, the victim walked into the Downers Grove Police Department to verify.
Residents are reminded of the following:
- The Downers Grove Police Department will never call you to demand money or payment over the phone.
- The Downers Grove Police Department will never ask for payment to avoid arrest.
- If you receive a suspicious call, DO NOT provide any personal or financial information and HANG UP.
- Report the suspicious phone call to 9-1-1 or the Downers Grove Police Department at 630-434-5600.
