Police Warn of Phone Scam

Be aware of what to do if you receive a suspicious phone call.

On March 9, 2026, the Downers Grove Police Department responded to a report of a possible phone scam. The victim received a phone call from a person identifying themself as a Downers Grove police officer, requesting payment of several thousand dollars in order to resolve a so-called legal matter. Luckily, before making the payment, the victim walked into the Downers Grove Police Department to verify. 

Residents are reminded of the following: 

  1. The Downers Grove Police Department will never call you to demand money or payment over the phone.  
  2. The Downers Grove Police Department will never ask for payment to avoid arrest. 
  3. If you receive a suspicious call, DO NOT provide any personal or financial information and HANG UP. 
  4. Report the suspicious phone call to 9-1-1 or the Downers Grove Police Department at 630-434-5600.
