FRIGID TEMPERATURES AHEAD

The National Weather Service is forecasting dangerously cold wind chills for our area over the next few days.


Tonight (12/3/25):

Wind chills are expected to drop between 10° below zero and 20° below zero. 


Thursday and Thursday Night (12/4/25):

Frigid conditions will continue, with wind chills again falling to 10° to 20° below zero Thursday morning and Thursday night into early Friday.

These temperatures can quickly lead to frostbite or hypothermia. Please take precautions: 

  1. Limit time outdoors and dress in layers. 
  2. Please be sure to check on friends and neighbors who may need assistance.
  3. Bring pets indoors. 
  4. If you must travel, keep an emergency kit in your vehicle.


WARMING CENTERS 


Residents in need of shelter due to extreme cold can call 911 to request sheltering assistance. This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays. Transportation to a warming center will be provided if needed.


The following warming centers are available, daily:

  1. Downers Grove Public Library, 1050 Curtiss St. 630.960.1200 Hours: M-F 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; Sat, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Sun, 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  2. Main Street Train Station, 5001 Main St. Open throughout the night.
  3. Find a warming center in DuPage County. Please be sure to call a warming center before going to one, as some are only open during emergencies, such as large-scale power outages.
