
Mosquito Spray Scheduled for August 1

Clarke Mosquito Control (Clarke) will spray to reduce the population of adult mosquitoes on Friday, August 1, 2025, weather permitting.
Prevention Tips:
- Minimize time spent outdoors between dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are the most active.
- When outside between dusk and dawn, wear loose-fitting, light-colored clothing that includes long pants, long-sleeved shirts, socks and shoes.
- Apply insect repellents containing DEET, Picaridin or oil of lemon eucalyptus to exposed skin and clothing.
- Make sure that doors and windows have tight fitting screens.
- Remove containers that may hold water to eliminate standing water which serves as a breeding ground for mosquitoes, i.e., discarded tires, cans, ceramic pots.
Clarke Mosquito Control (Clarke) will spray to reduce the population of adult mosquitoes on Friday, August 1, 2025, weather permitting. Mosquito samples from traps in Downers Grove and neighboring communities have tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV). A human case of WNV has been reported in a municipality adjacent to Downers Grove.
Spraying will begin at approximately 8:00 p.m. and all streets within incorporated Downers Grove will be completed by early dawn.
OPT OUT
If you do not want the area around your property to be sprayed, please call Clarke Mosquito Control between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at 630.239.1598 and choose Option 4. Calls must be received by 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 1.
APPLICATION
An ultra-low volume fogging machine mounted on the back of a truck will be used to apply Merus Adulticide, a natural substance from the flowers of chrysanthemum plants. This product is acceptable for use in organic-certified farms, gardens and residential areas and meets the USDA’s National Organic Program standards.
It is recommended that residents keep doors and windows closed while spraying is being done.
Please note that natural areas maintained by the Village will NOT be sprayed.
