Three Guiding DG Plans Ready For Approval

On Tuesday, April 8, 2025 the Village Council will consider three of the four Guiding DG Plans for adoption.

Final drafts of the Active Transportation Plan, Environmental Sustainability Plan and Streetscapes Plan are available at Guiding DG. 

In December 2023, the Village began work on plans to improve the livability, mobility, design, and sustainability future of Downers Grove. Known as Guiding DG, the series of four plans includes: 

• Comprehensive Plan
• Active Transportation Plan
• Environmental Sustainability Plan
• Streetscapes Plan 



The success of Guiding DG is built on public engagement which included a community wide kick-off meeting, stakeholder interviews, surveys, open houses, pop-up events, workshops and public meetings before the Village Council, Planning and Zoning Commission, Transportation and Parking Commission, Environmental Concerns Commission and the Historic Preservation and Design Review Board. In all, nearly 40 public meetings were held and these engagement efforts led to extensive public comment and input into each plan. Based on the following results, engagement targets were exceeded:  

• Over 3,000 People Responded to Four Surveys 
• 900 People Attended Workshops and Events 
• Nearly 70 Key Stakeholders Completed Interviews 
• Over 100,000 Combined Views and Impressions on Village Social Media 

The Comprehensive Plan is scheduled for completion this summer.
