71st Street Emergency Backup Water Well #14 Rehabilitation

Project Summary

In 2017 the Village of Downers Grove completed an evaluation of the condition and operation of the Village's three backup wells. Based on the recommendations in that report, the Village is moving forward with the rehabilitation of the three backup wells.

The rehabilitation will include new well buildings, new motor control centers, upgrades and repairs to the well pumps and motors, and other site improvements as needed. The 71st Street Water Well will be the first of three emergency backup wells to be rehabilitated.

Construction of 71st Street Backup Water Well #14 (1724 71st Street) will be fully financed by the IEPA Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (SRF). The SRF program is administered by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and receives a portion of its money to fund these types of projects from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Once complete, Well #14 will be a state of the art backup emergency well, providing water to the community in the event the DuPage Water Commission is unable to give the Village water in an emergency.

SRF programs operate in each state to provide communities the resources necessary to build, maintain, and improve the infrastructure that protects one of our most valuable resources: water.
