Dunham & Thornwood Improvements

Project Summary

This project includes roadway and sidewalk modifications near the intersection of Thornwood Drive and Dunham Road. Work will include sidewalk improvements to eliminate stairs in the public right-of-way, roadway changes at the existing landscaped median, and parkway sod installation.

LATEST UPDATE

October 17, 2025

Sod replacement work has been started. A final walkthrough will determine any remaining punch list items and cleanup work.

October 10, 2025

A punch list has been provided to the contractor and final sod inspection will identify any corrective landscaping work.

September 12, 2025

A Village landscaping contractor may begin restoration at the new median near Thornwood and Dunham the week of 9/15 (weather pending). This area is planned to have a variety of native plants instead of sod.

August 29, 2025

The construction work on Thornwood/Dunham is substantially complete. The landscape contractor should continue to be on site for watering the new sod. Remaining work includes miscellaneous cleanup, landscaping, and punch list work.

August 22, 2025

Landscape restoration and site cleanup will continue the week of 8/25. Punchlist work may also begin next week and possibly again after the sod is installed to address any final corrective work.

August 15, 2025

1. The contractor is targeting Monday August 18 to complete the asphalt paving for all remaining driveways and roadway surface course. Tack coat will be applied first Monday morning prior to paving.
2. Landscape restoration may begin the week of 8/18 as well, but this will be dependent on cooler temperatures.

August 1, 2025

1. Fire hydrant replacement work began at the intersection of Dunham and Thornwood on 8/1. Additional storm sewer work is tentatively scheduled for the week of 8/4 (weather pending).
2. Some additional work to start pavement removal could also begin the week of 8/4. If driveways will be blocked for short-term only, the contractor will knock on doors to coordinate access. If driveway access will be blocked overnight, a notice will be delivered to affected residents prior to starting.

July 11, 2025

The updated schedule indicates work will progress further on Jefferson Avenue before the contractor begins at the Thornwood/Dunham intersection. Work here will likely not begin until August, with more specific updates to be provided when available.

June 27,2025

Some storm sewer and fire hydrant replacement work may start in the later half of the week of 7/7. Traffic control signs will be installed prior to work beginning.

June 20, 2025

The contractor may begin setting up traffic control signs as early as next week for this project. The first phase of their work will be focused at Jefferson Avenue, but some underground work may begin near the Thornwood/Dunham intersection after the Independence Day weekend.

April 25, 2025

1. This project is currently being advertised along with improvements on Jefferson Avenue to contractors.
2. Bids are due back from qualified contractors by May 7, which will then be reviewed at two additional council meetings before proceeding to construction.

April 4, 2025

Final design is nearly complete for the Thornwood/Dunham intersection improvements. The plans will include a landscaped median area based on feedback from the neighborhood meeting.

March 14, 2025

1. A neighborhood meeting has been scheduled for 3/25/25 at 6 PM at the Public Works building located at 5101 Walnut Ave.
2. The project is anticipated to go out for bids in April with construction to begin after school is out for the summer.
