Police Investigate Attempted Armed Carjacking

On September 30, 2021, at approximately 1:15 p.m., the Downers Grove Police Department responded to a report of an attempted armed carjacking at the BP Gas Station, located at 4314 Main St.

During the incident, two Black men exited a black Dodge or Chrysler minivan and approached a customer who was filling their vehicle with gas. One of the offenders pointed a handgun at the customer who ran away from the vehicle. The offenders were not able to start the vehicle and returned to the minivan. There were two other occupants inside the minivan. The minivan fled the parking lot northbound on Main St. and was last seen entering eastbound I-88 at Highland Ave. No one was injured during the incident.

Chief Shanon Gillette would like to remind everyone to not place themselves at further risk by attempting to resist someone who is armed and demanding that property be relinquished. Members of the public should remain alert and be aware of their surroundings at all times.
