DuPage mayors, village presidents, and countywide elected officials were invited to contribute items to a time capsule to be opened in 2051.

The DuPage County Board hosted a time capsule closing ceremony on June 9 in commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the United States. DuPage mayors, village presidents, and countywide elected officials were invited to contribute items to a time capsule to be opened in 2051.

Represented by Manager Dave Fieldman and Commissioner Chris Gilmartin, the Village was honored to participate in the America 250 Time Capsule initiative and contributed items that reflect both the community's history and its aspirations for future generations.

Among the contributions was a complete set of the Village's Guiding DG plans, including the Comprehensive Plan, Environmental Sustainability Plan, Active Transportation Plan, and Streetscapes Plan. Together, these documents outline a shared vision for Downers Grove's future.

Also included were a guided tour brochure from the February 8, 2026, grand opening of the Downers Grove Civic Center and a commemorative challenge coin created for the occasion. These items mark the opening of a facility that serves as the center of local government and community life.

The Village also contributed a copy of Downers Grove Past and Present by Downers Grove resident Greg Elisha, which chronicles the people, places, and events that have shaped the community over generations.

Together, these contributions preserve a snapshot of Downers Grove in 2026, offering future residents a glimpse into the community's history, priorities, and aspirations when the capsule is opened in 2051.
