Excellence in Financial Reporting
July 05, 2024
The Village of Downers Grove has received the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation award for the 2024 Municipal Budget. This is the 14th consecutive year that Finance Director Robin Lahey and staff have received the highest award for governmental budgeting.
The guidelines used for this assessment consider how well an entity's budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device. The Village's budget was recognized for excellence in all four of these categories.
When it comes to overall financial reporting, the Village has a long record of distinction based on a strong commitment to financial stewardship and transparency. In fact, the Village has also received the GFOA Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the 2022 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report. This is the highest form of recognition for accounting and financial reporting, which the Village has received over multiple decades.
The GFOA is a non-profit professional organization with more than 19,000 members throughout North America. Reports are evaluated and reviewed by members of the GFOA professional staff and by outside reviewers with experience in public-sector accounting. The GFOA encourages and assists state and local governments to prepare documents of the very highest quality.
