The Downers Grove Fire Department has again been recognized by the American Heart Association (AHA) for applying the most up-to-date treatment and improving cardiac related emergency care and related outcomes to patients.

The Downers Grove Fire Department has again been recognized by the American Heart Association (AHA) for applying the most up-to-date treatment and improving cardiac related emergency care and related outcomes to patients. For continued excellence in the field, the Department has received the AHA’s Gold Level Mission: Lifeline EMS award.

Achieving Gold Level means that the Department has consistently initiated life saving cardiac care within the first 10 minutes to people suffering from heart attacks or strokes. The American Heart Association states that the response time for patients experiencing a cardiac emergency should be 90 minutes or less from the time responders arrive to the time the patient receives definitive treatment at the hospital. The Downers Grove Fire Department has exceeded these benchmarks for more than 36 consecutive months.

This recognition places the Fire Department in the company of some of the highest rated prehospital emergency medical service providers in the nation. The distinction comes in addition to the department’s status as one of the top 1% of fire departments nationwide who are recognized with an ISO Class 1 rating for fire suppression, prevention and public education.

Congratulations to the members of the Downers Grove Fire Department for their outstanding performance.
