July 26, 2024
Clarke Mosquito Control will spray for adult mosquitoes on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, weather permitting.
Residents are reminded to take the following precautions regarding mosquitoes:
- Minimize time spent outdoors between dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are the most active.
- When outside between dusk and dawn, wear loose-fitting, light-colored clothing that includes long pants, long-sleeved shirts, socks and shoes.
- Apply insect repellents containing DEET, Picaridin or oil of lemon eucalyptus to exposed skin and clothing.
- Make sure that doors and windows have tight fitting screens.
- Remove containers that may hold water to eliminate standing water which serves as a breeding ground for mosquitoes, i.e., discarded tires, cans, ceramic pots.
Clarke Mosquito Control will spray for adult mosquitoes on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, weather permitting. Mosquito samples from traps in the immediately adjacent neighboring communities have tested positive for West Nile Virus. To reduce the potential public health risk of mosquito borne illness, the Village and surrounding communities are spraying to reduce the adult mosquito population.
Spraying will begin at approximately 8:00 p.m. and all streets within incorporated Downers Grove will be completed by early dawn. The Village has also been treating mosquitoes by applying larvicides to catch basins and storm sewers to inhibit mosquito larvae from developing into adults.
Clarke will be spraying the EPA approved DUET with an ultra-low volume fogging machine mounted on the back of a truck. The active ingredient in DUET is a pyrethroid that emulates naturally derived insecticides found in chrysanthemum flowers. It is recommended that residents keep doors and windows closed while spraying is being done.
If you would like advanced notice of sprayings, please visit the Clarke Customer Portal and register to receive notifications. You may also call the Clarke hotline at 1-800-942-2555.
