Village Manager David Fieldman has announced that after 28 years of dedicated service, Fire Chief Jeffery Pindelski will retire on Friday, July 23, 2021.

"Chief Pindelski has used his considerable experience in all areas of fire department operations to make our community safer. Time and again he has demonstrated his leadership capabilities in emergency situations," Manager Fieldman said.

"It has been my honor to serve Downers Grove and to uphold the highest standards of the fire service for our citizens. The people I have worked with are the reason that the Fire Department is considered to be one of the best anywhere. Everyone is committed to supporting the goal of providing the best service possible," Chief Pindelski said.

Under Pindelski's leadership, the department attained many honors and distinctions. Most notably, he helped the department obtain a Class 1 Public Protection Rating. During his tenure, the department has also been recognized numerous times by the American Heart Association (AHA) for improving cardiac related emergency care and patient outcomes with the Gold Level Plus Mission: Lifeline EMS award. Recently, the department implemented an Enhanced Cardiac Arrest Model, which Downers Grove EMS personnel are piloting for the Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital Emergency Medical Services System.

"Our community has benefited greatly from Chief Pindelski's many talents and dedication to the fire service. Under his direction, members of the Fire Department worked and trained diligently to provide the citizens and visitors of Downers Grove with quality emergency services. We wish him nothing but the best," said Mayor Robert Barnett.

Chief Pindelski began his career in Downers Grove in 1993. He rose through the ranks serving as a firefighter, lieutenant, Battalion Chief of Support Services, Battalion Chief Shift Commander, Emergency Management Coordinator, Deputy Chief of Operations and Deputy Chief of Administration. He was sworn in as the department's Chief on September 1, 2017.
