Flexible Amenity Areas
Project Summary
The 2025 Guiding DG Streetscapes Plan identified five locations in the Downtown area as Flexible Amenity Areas. These spaces are intended to support a variety of uses, from outdoor dining and casual seating to community gathering opportunities and public art displays.
Construction includes pavement removal, select underground utility work, concrete placement, landscaping and furnishings.
All work is weather dependent and schedules are subject to change.
LATEST UPDATE
August 7, 2026
- This week, concrete sidewalk was poured on Curtiss. Electrical work was performed at the northeast corner of Main and Curtiss.
- Concrete removals began on the southeast corner of Burlington and Main. Sidewalk is tentatively scheduled to be poured at the southeast corner of Burlington and Main on 8/7, weather pending.
- The week of August 10th will have underground utility work taking place at the southeast corner of Burlington and Main, and excavations for seat wall footings will begin at Main and Maple and Main and Curtiss.
PAST UPDATES
July 31, 2026
- Work this week was impacted due to severe weather. Sidewalk was poured at Curtiss and Main, and curb was poured at Maple and Main. Utility work will continue on Curtiss on Friday, July 31st.
- Removals and concrete work will continue on Curtiss for the week of 8/3, and by the end of the week removals will begin at the southeast corner of Burlington and Main.
- Underground utility work will continue at the Curtiss location the week of 8/3.
July 24, 2026
- This week, underground utility work continued at Main & Maple and a pedestrian sidewalk path was poured.
- Removals commenced at the corner of Main and Curtiss. A sidewalk path is expected to be poured at Main and Curtiss on Monday, July 27.
- Removals will continue at Main and Curtiss on Tuesday, July 28. Underground utility work will begin at Main and Curtiss, and excavation for seat walls will continue at Main and Maple.
- Towards the end of the week, around 7/30-7/31, the utility contractor is tentatively planning to begin digging at the southeast corner of Main and Burlington.
July 17, 2026
- Removals began this week at the northeast corner of Main and Maple.
- Underground utility work will begin on Friday, 7/17 and continue on Monday, 7/20, weather pending. A sidewalk path is expected to be poured on Monday, 7/20 as well.
- Preparations for the seat wall work at Main and Maple will continue through the week of 7/20.
- Removals at the northeast corner of Main and Curtiss are expected to begin on Tuesday, July 21, with utility work following.
July 3, 2026
Work is tentatively scheduled to begin the week of July 6th at the locations on the east side of Main Street (Southeast Burlington, Northeast Curtiss, and Northeast Maple).
June 26, 2026
- Directly impacted and adjacent businesses and residents received construction notices with additional information on Thursday, June 25.

June 19, 2026
- Work for this project is tentatively scheduled to begin the week of July 6. Businesses in the area will receive notices with additional information about construction operations.
Work is tentatively planned to begin on the east side of Main Street: Southeast corner of Burlington and Main, Northeast corner of Curtiss and Main, and the Northeast corner of Maple and Main.

Work for this project is tentatively planned to begin after the 4th of July weekend.

A preconstruction meeting with the contractor will be held the week of May 25, at which time a construction schedule will be established.
April 17, 2026
- This project was awarded at the April 14 Council meeting. A preconstruction meeting will be scheduled, at which time a schedule will be established.
- Work cannot begin prior to July 6.
April 10, 2026
This project is scheduled to be approved at the April 14, 2026, Council meeting.
