Downtown Crosswalks

Project Summary

This phase of the DBD Crosswalk and Accessibility Upgrades includes the intersections at:

Franklin St and Forest Ave

Rogers St and Highland Ave

Rogers St and Bryan Ave

Washington St and Warren Ave

Highland Ave and Warren Ave

Warren Median

Sidewalk ramps and traffic signals and connections will be modernized and updated to comply with Americans with Disabilities Act. All existing sidewalk materials will be replaced with concrete matching the rest of the Downtown Business District (DBD). All existing crosswalk material within each intersection will be replaced and topped with a highly visible and durable material in a decorative red brick pattern.

Punch list work complete. This project is complete.

PAST UPDATES

November 8, 2024

Decorative crosswalk material has been applied. Clean up and punch list items to be completed over the next week.

October 25, 2024

Decorative crosswalk material to be applied starting Monday, 10/28.

October 4, 2024

Project is substantially complete, specialty crosswalk material application to follow the week of Halloween, weather pending.

September 27, 2024

• Asphalt work is complete. Newly paved surfaces will require at least 30 days before decorative crosswalk material can be applied.
• Landscape work including the installation of an additional barrier curb for a planter bed expected to continue into next week, weather pending.

September 20, 2024

Phase two of removals is complete. Contractor expects to have all remaining curbs and sidewalks framed and poured by Monday, 9/23, weather pending. Road patching to follow.

September 13, 2024

• The first phase of sidewalk replacement is complete. Temporary stone to be placed in pavement gaps to facilitate pedestrian access until road can be patched.
• Removal of remaining corners expected to take place over the next week, weather pending.
• Road patching will take place after new curbs and sidewalks are in place, specialty crosswalk marking to follow after that.

September 6, 2024

• Concrete removal for the first phase of construction is complete.
• Framing and pouring of curb expected to continue into next week, weather pending; framing and pouring of sidewalk to follow.
• Access to the Tivoli theater to be maintained throughout project.

August 30, 2024

Saw cutting prior to material removal expected to be complete by 8/30. Concrete curb and sidewalk removal expected to begin next week, weather pending. Work will be staged to best accommodate pedestrian access while the project is ongoing.

August 16, 2024

Contractor intends to begin work next week, weather pending.

July 12, 2024

Project expected to begin over the next couple of weeks, weather pending.

June 14, 2024

Project was awarded at the 6/11 Council meeting. Work to begin in July.

May 31, 2024

Bids have been received and are under review.
