Storm Sewer Replacement

This work is an annual program to replace or fix issues with existing storm sewers and perform maintenance to existing ditches.

This year includes:

  1. Addition of a manhole to the storm sewer along the lot line between Candlewood Dr & 39th St
  2. Installation of a new storm sewer at Lincoln St & Middaugh Ave

LATEST UPDATE

July 3, 2026

Seed and blanket have been installed on Lincoln Street and Middaugh Avenue. The contractor is monitoring the weather to determine a suitable timeframe in which to begin the work on Candlewood Drive.

PAST UPDATES

June 26, 2026

  1. Final paving has been completed on Lincoln Street and Middaugh Avenue.
  2. Areas of sod disturbed by the project will be restored temporarily with seed and blanket - due to 90+ degree temperatures next week and IDOT's guidelines not to install sod during the months of July or August, final sod placement is now delayed until the fall.
  3. Regarding a timeline for the Candlewood Drive work, discussions with the contractor are still ongoing.



June 19, 2026

  1. The 3" asphalt surface grind and the 6" thick asphalt patch over the storm sewer trench has been completed.
  2. Next week, the contractor plans to adjust manhole covers in the roadway to their final elevation before completing the final asphalt surface layer.
  3. The Candlewood Drive work has been delayed while the contractor figures out a way to divert stormwater flow in one of the manholes to be replaced around the work area. This work is now expected to be completed next week.



June 12, 2026

  1. Concrete work has been completed.
  2. Next week, the paving contractor will mobilize to grind the top layer of pavement. Following that, they will patch the storm sewer trench with asphalt, install a layer of asphalt binder course, and finally, a layer of asphalt surface course.
  3. Meanwhile, the sewer crew plans to mobilize to Candlewood Drive early next week.




June 5, 2026

  1. Construction of curb and gutter has been completed.
  2. Removal and replacement of concrete sidewalks and driveway aprons will continue into next week, followed by asphalt patching, final paving, and sod restoration on Lincoln Street and Middaugh Avenue.
  3. The sewer crew will mobilize to Candlewood Drive early next week.




May 29, 2026

  1. Water service replacements have been completed on Middaugh Avenue.
  2. Next week, the Village's meter technician will program the newly installed meters at the addresses where service lines were replaced.
  3. Additional pavement and concrete curb will be removed, and the concrete and asphalt subcontractor will mobilize to the site to begin hardscape restoration.
  4. If curb or sidewalk is to be replaced across a driveway, the resident will be provided notification that driveway access will be restricted for 7 to 10 days while the concrete cures.
  5. The underground utility crew will mobilize to Candlewood Drive to begin work on that phase of the project.




May 8, 2026

  1. Storm sewer installation on Middaugh Avenue and Lincoln Street is complete.
  2. The contractor is making arrangements to enlist a subcontractor to prune tree roots prior to excavating bore pits for water service line installation.
  3. If they have not already, the contractor will begin contacting individual homeowners to schedule the replacements for sometime in the coming weeks.




May 1, 2026

  1. Mainline storm sewer has been installed on Middaugh Avenue.
  2. The contractor plans to finish mainline storm sewer installation on Lincoln Street by early next week. Following that, the contractor will begin contacting residents to arrange lead water service replacements.
  3. Upon completion of that work, the contractor plans to mobilize to Candlewood Dr, weather permitting.




April 24, 2026

  1. The contractor plans to finish the mainline storm sewer along Middaugh Avenue this week or early next week, and finish storm sewer installation on Lincoln Street next week.
  2. The following week, the contractor plans to begin replacing lead water services.
  3. The contractor will be reaching out to homeowners to schedule the replacements. Upon completion of the water service replacements, the contractor plans to mobilize to Candlewood Dr.




April 17, 2026

  1. The contractor has been installing mainline storm sewer this week.
  2. Next week, weather permitting, the contractor will continue storm sewer installation north along Middaugh Ave.
  3. The contractor or a member of the Village will knock on residents' doors to provide notice in the event that their driveway access may be temporarily blocked on a given day. Driveway access will be restored by the end of the workday.




April 10, 2026

  1. Mainline storm sewer installation has begun at the Chicago Ave and Middaugh Ave intersection.
  2. Next week, weather permitting, the contractor will continue storm sewer installation north along Middaugh Ave.
  3. The contractor or a member of the Village will knock on residents' doors to provide notice in the event that their driveway access may be temporarily blocked on a given day.
  4. Driveway access will be restored by the end of the workday.




April 3, 2026

  1. The contractor has mobilized equipment and material to begin construction, and sawcut the pavement where the new storm sewer is to be installed.
  2. Installation of the mainline storm sewer will begin the week of 4/6.
  3. Residents on the south side of Lincoln St and on the east side of Middaugh Ave may expect driveway access to be temporarily blocked as storm sewer is installed across driveway aprons. Driveway access will be restored by the end of the workday.


March 20, 2026

  1. The contract was awarded after the March 3 Council meeting, and a pre-construction meeting was held with the contractor on 3/13.
  2. Construction notices have been distributed along those sections of Lincoln St and Middaugh Ave within or immediately adjacent to the project area. The Village has also begun coordinating with residents with lead water services to schedule replacement.
  3. The contractor is expected to mobilize onsite the week of 3/30. Initial site preparation activities will include material and equipment deliveries, installation of traffic control signage, and the installation of tree protection fence.
  4. Underground work is expected to begin at the intersection of Chicago Ave and Middaugh Ave.
