Sherwood Ave and Chicago Ave

Project Summary

This project involves storm sewer improvements on Sherwood Avenue from Chicago Ave to Grant Street, and on Chicago Avenue from Linden Place to Douglas Road. Restoration will include street resurfacing and sidewalk improvements at intersections.

LATEST UPDATE

September 29, 2023

• Rain days and material delivery issues have delayed work this week. All remaining driveway installation should be completed this week (weather pending).
• The updated completion date is now October 31, as work continues to be delayed until the drainage frames and grates are acquired.

PAST UPDATES

September 22, 2023

• The contractor began landscape restoration work on both Chicago Avenue and Sherwood Avenue. Supply/delivery issues continue to delay the completion of the storm sewer drainage frames and grates, which is the next controlling item before completing the concrete and asphalt work.
• The tentative timeframe for continuing the asphalt and concrete work is the first week of October.

September 8, 2023

• The contractor has completed adjusting the new manhole frames on Sherwood Avenue. Supply/delivery issues continue to delay the completion of the storm sewer drainage frames and grates, which is the next controlling item before completing the concrete and asphalt work.
• The landscape restoration is tentatively scheduled to begin the week of September 18.

September 1, 2023

• This week the contractor worked on paving the first layer of asphalt surface on Sherwood Avenue. Next week the contractor may begin to work on landscape restoration - weather dependent.
• The contractor is having difficulty with supply/delivery of the storm sewer drainage frames and grates, which is the next controlling task before completing the asphalt surface on Sherwood Avenue. More information will be shared when the contractor provides an updated schedule, but paving could be delayed until late September or early October.

August 25, 2023

• This week the contractor worked on milling the existing pavement on Sherwood to prepare for the asphalt paving process. Work was generally delayed this week due to the excessive heat.
• Next week the contractor will plan to continue with asphalt paving operations on Sherwood Avenue. Driveway access may be temporarily restricted for residents on Sherwood Avenue during paving operations, but access will be restored by the end of each work day.

August 18, 2023

• This week the contractor completed the installation of the asphalt base course and surface course on Chicago Avenue. Some of the asphalt patching was started on Sherwood Avenue and several of the asphalt driveway aprons were constructed.
• Next week the contractor will begin milling the existing pavement surface along Sherwood Avenue and continue with asphalt paving on Sherwood Avenue. Driveway access may be temporarily restricted for residents on Sherwood Avenue during paving operations, but access will be restored by the end of each work day.

August 11, 2023

• This week the contractor completed the installation of the concrete gutter and concrete driveways on the west side of Sherwood Avenue as well as sidewalk crossings on Sherwood Avenue.
• Next week the contractor will install frames and grates for the new storm sewer along Sherwood Avenue and complete the remaining concrete gutter. Driveway access will be restored for residents on the west side of Sherwood Avenue. Asphalt paving will begin on Chicago Avenue as well as asphalt driveway work along Sherwood Avenue.

August 4, 2023

• This week the contractor completed the installation of the concrete gutter and concrete driveways on the east side of Sherwood Ave as well as along Chicago Avenue.
• Next week the contractor will excavate and install concrete gutter and aprons on the west side of Sherwood Avenue. Driveway access will be restored for residents on the east side of Sherwood and along Chicago Avenue.
• Residents should not park vehicles on Sherwood Avenue Monday - Friday from 6am to 6pm unless given notice to due to blocked driveway access. Evening and weekend parking are allowed.

July 28, 2023

• This week the contractor completed the installation of the storm sewer on Sherwood Ave and the surveyor has laid out the staking for concrete gutter. All the storm sewer has now been installed.
• Next week the contractor will excavate and install concrete gutter and aprons on the east side of Sherwood Avenue and Chicago Avenue. Residents should not park vehicles on Sherwood Avenue Monday - Friday from 6am to 6pm unless given notice to due to blocked driveway access. Evening and weekend parking are allowed.

July 21, 2023

• This week the contractor finished installing storm sewer on Chicago Avenue and continued to work on the storm sewer installation on Sherwood Avenue.
• Next week the contractor will continue installing storm sewer on Sherwood Avenue moving north from Chicago Avenue. No parking signs have been posted on Sherwood Avenue due to the narrow road width. Residents should not park vehicles on Sherwood Avenue Monday - Friday from 6am to 6pm. Evening and weekend parking are allowed.

July 14, 2023

• This week the contractor finished installing the main line storm sewer on Chicago Avenue and began moving north on Sherwood Avenue.
• Next week the contractor will continue installing storm sewer on Sherwood Avenue moving north from Chicago Avenue. No parking signs have been posted on Sherwood Avenue due to the narrow road width. Residents should not park vehicles on Sherwood Avenue Monday - Friday from 6am to 6pm. Evening and weekend parking is allowed.

July 7, 2023

• This week the contractor mobilized equipment and materials on Chicago Ave; completed saw cutting for storm sewer installation; and began storm sewer installation on Chicago Ave beginning at Linden Place.
• Next week the contractor will continue storm sewer installation on Chicago Avenue moving east towards Sherwood Avenue. Storm sewer installation will then begin moving north on Sherwood Avenue from Chicago Avenue.

June 30, 2023

• This week the contractor began installation of tree protection fence, completed construction staking, and began saw cutting.
• Next week the contractor plans to begin storm sewer installation on Chicago Ave near Linden Pl moving towards Sherwood. The work next week is planned to begin on Wednesday July 5th.

June 23, 2023

This week the contractor scheduled utility location markings and mobilized traffic control. Next week the contractor plans to install tree protection fence, begin construction staking, and begin saw cutting concrete for removals.

May 19, 2023

The contract was awarded at the May 16, 2023, Council meeting. A pre-construction meeting is tentatively scheduled for May 26.
