Juvenile Law Enforcement Records Automatic Expungement

Public notice is hereby given that the Downers Grove Police Department has completed the expungement of all eligible juvenile law enforcement records created in 2013, 2014 and 2015, in accordance with the Juvenile Court Act of 1987 (704 ILCS 405/5-915).

In 2018, the State of Illinois approved Public Act 100-1162, which requires that law enforcement agencies automatically expunge all eligible juvenile law enforcement records from the years 2000 through 2017. Juvenile law enforcement records prior to January 1, 2018, but on or after January 1, 2013 must be expunged prior to January 1, 2020.

This law also requires that written notice be given to those individuals whose records have been expunged. The law allows that, for records created prior to 2016, a public notice, such as this one, satisfies that requirement.

Accordingly, this document serves as notice of expungement for events occurring between January 1, 2013 and December 31, 2015. Notice of expungement for events occurring between January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2017 have been mailed to the juvenile’s last known address.

The Downers Grove Police Department is committed to the responsible maintenance of law enforcement records, in compliance with the law and best practices. The Department recognizes that records involving juveniles, in particular, require the utmost care and thoroughness with regard to how those records are created and maintained
