Police Department Achieves Gold Standard Accreditation

Downers Grove Police Chief Shanon Gillette announced today that the Downers Grove Police Department has been awarded Gold Standard Accreditation with Excellence through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The Department also received the Meritorious Award for achieving 15 or more consecutive years of accreditation; a new milestone for the Village.

Accreditation with Excellence is the highest level of recognition awarded by the Commission. Only about 4% of law enforcement agencies in the United States have achieved accreditation through CALEA. The excellence designation places the Village among a select few which meet CALEA’s rigorous professional standards.

"I would like to thank our entire staff for their hard work throughout this assessment period. The commitment to excellence is a part of our culture," said Chief Gillette. "I would also like to recognize my predecessors, Chief Robert Porter and Chief Kurt Bluder, along with Accreditation Manager Marion Heintz, for their leadership during this time."

Congratulations to the hard working members of the Downers Grove Police Department. Thank you for your commitment to excellence in public safety services.
