During the month of February, the Downers Grove Fire Department brought the Learn Not to Burn topic of "burn prevention" to all third grade classrooms. Each year in the United States and Canada, more than 486,000 individuals are seen in emergency rooms, convenient care clinics or physician's offices for the treatment of a burn injury. There are many causes of burns (flame, scald, electrical, chemical, etc.) in our own homes and the majority of these injuries are preventable.
By arming themselves with the knowledge of the many different ways a burn injury can occur, students take home valuable information to share with their family and ensure a safe environment.
The Village of Downers Grove created a video for use with their Learn Not to Burn program featuring real Downers Grove firefighters. Please take a few minutes to watch Safety Around the Home.
