On Monday August 28, 2017, at approximately 7:30 p.m., the Downers Grove Police Department responded to a home at 4941 Northcott Avenue to investigate a domestic disturbance. The man was uncooperative and barricaded himself inside his home for several hours. During this time, he made threats to shoot the investigating officers.The Felony Investigative Assistance S.W.A.T. Team responded to the scene and negotiated with the man. At approximately 1:00 a.m. on August 29, he exited the home and was taken into custody.
Robert E. Dankwardt, 57, of 4941 Northcott Avenue is charged with two counts of Battery, one count of Assault and one count of Criminal Damage to Property. He has been transferred to DuPage County Jail and is awaiting bond court. Members of the public are reminded that these complaints contain only charges and are not proof of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government's burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
