UPDATE 10-21-15 6:15 p.m.:
After having located the truck and interviewing the driver, police have determined that the incident was a misunderstanding and there was no criminal intent.
On Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at 3:30 p.m., four boys were walking on the sidewalk in the 6600 block of Barrett Street near Kingsley School. The occupant of a maroon pick-up truck that was parked along the curb asked the boys if they wanted the rest of his popcorn. The boys declined and continued to walk on the sidewalk. The driver then drove south on Barrett Street without any further discussion with the boys.
The driver was described as being a white man approximately 30 years of age, with shaggy brown hair, tan skin, wearing a red baseball cap and a light gray t-shirt. He was driving a newer-model, maroon Chevrolet pick-up, 2-doors, with extended cab with a tomahawk sticker on the rear bumper or back window.
The Police Department has increased patrols at all parks and schools. Parents are reminded to review stranger danger practices with their children and instruct them to run to a familiar house or to school if approached by a stranger. The police should then be called as soon as possible.
Anyone with additional information regarding this incident is being asked to contact the Police Department at (630) 434-5600.
