Memorial Day Traffic Enforcement

The Downers Grove Police Department is participating in a year-long initiative that focuses on impaired driving and seat belt enforcement on specific holidays, including Memorial Day.

This initiative is in partnership with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), and is funded with an IDOT traffic grant. Officers will be working saturation patrols that target impaired drivers and seat belt enforcement zones. This May 11 through May 25, the Downers Grove Police Department will be joining hundreds of other Illinois law enforcement agencies to remind motorists to "Click-it or Ticket." The Memorial Day weekend kicks off the summer vacation season and the police department wants to ensure that everyone makes it to their destination safely. It is the perfect time to remind everyone that seat belt use is the law for anyone in the front and back seat of the car.

During the 2014 Memorial Day holiday weekend there were 12 traffic fatalities. Three of those fatalities were alcohol related. The best defense against an impaired driver is a safety belt.

Buckle up, every trip, every time, every vehicle, every position.
