Pedestrian Struck By Train At Main Street Crossing

On February 28, 2015 at approximately 9:40 PM, the Downers Grove Police Department responded to a report of a person struck by a train at the Main Street railroad crossing.  The preliminary investigation indicates that a man walked around the south crossing gates at Main Street as a stopped Metra train waited for passengers. The man proceeded to walk between the center tracks towards Forest Avenue and was struck by a westbound BNSF freight train.  The man, identified as 32 year old James G. Hill of Aurora, was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses stated that the crossing gates were down and functioning properly at the time of the accident.
