Thanksgiving Day
- Bonfield Express 5k run/walk A Thanksgiving Day tradition, now in its 11th year! Race starts at 8:30 a.m. The 5K race starts at Main and Grove Streets in downtown Downers Grove. The course begins with a loop around the downtown area. After the first mile, the course enters the beautiful, wooded neighborhood of Denburn Woods. The route passes the second mile just before it exits Denburn Woods. Finally, runners will complete a small neighborhood loop before returning to downtown for the finish line on Curtiss Street.
Tree Lighting Ceremony
Friday, NOVEMBER 28, 2014, 4:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Village of Downers Grove.
Join the mayor in the countdown to turn on the lights of the tree at the Main Street Train Station. Over 1,000 ornaments handmade by local youth decorate the tree. Refreshments will be served inside the train station from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Downers Grove Choral Society and scout troops will lead the crowd in songs of the season.
Gingerbread Festival

Downtown Downers Grove
Kick off your holiday shopping in Downtown Downers Grove. Lots of special activities including Breakfast with Santa at participating restaurants, photos with the Gingerbread Boy and Girl throughout town and a stop at Santa's Gingerbread House to share Christmas wishes. Garbage Collection
Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 2014, is a holiday for Republic Services. Residents with Thursday or Friday as their regular collection day are reminded that pickup will be one day later during the holiday week.
Village Hall Hours
Most Village offices will be closed on Thanksgiving Day and Friday, November 28, 2014.
