Update to 2011 Burglary Arrest

Downers Grove Police Chief Robert Porter announced today Andrew J. Walczak, 22 of Downers Grove, Illinois, has been sentenced to ten years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, for burglarizing a Downers Grove home on July 16, 2011. Walczak entered a plea of guilty late last week to one count of Residential Burglary in front of Judge Kathryn E. Creswell, who handed down the sentence.

On July 28, 2011, officers responded to the 1300 block of Turvey Road for a report of a burglary to a vehicle, where the offender possibly possessed a firearm. The offender fled into a nearby wooded area. After an extensive search of the Maple Grove Forest Preserve, the offender could not be located.

Acting on investigative leads, police executed a search warrant on July 29, 2011 at 1443 Maple Avenue. Officers located a pellet rifle and proceeds from thefts and burglaries in the Denburn
Woods area. Police arrested Andrew Walczak at the house. After a long investigation, followed by a review by the State's Attorney's Office, Andrew Walczak was charged with Residential
Burglary.

Walczak is currently in custody at the Du Page County Jail and will be transferred to the Illinois Department of Corrections.
