Gypsy Moth Spraying

Weather permitting, the U.S. Forest Service will conduct aerial spraying for gypsy moths directly to the west of Downers Grove the week of June 24, 2013.

This work is part of an ongoing effort to minimize the invasive impact of gypsy moths in the state. The spray will be applied by low-flying airplanes, which will appear as if they are conducting aerial stunts. The planes will dispurse a tiny confetti-like material treated with a pheromone that confuses male gypsy moths and disrupts mating. Insecticides are not being used.

A map of the area is attached.
