Update: 4:40 pm. Crews have finished a pass along the main roads and are now transitioning to secondary roads and side streets during rush hour. There are now 17 vehicles focused on snow removal and ice control throughout the Village. Following rush hour, crews will return to the main roads and will then work throughout the evening and early morning to clear all roadways.
Update--Meeting Cancellation: A Winter Storm Warning issued by the National Weather service in effect until midnight has prompted the cancellation of tonight's Village Council meeting. The decision to cancel the meeting is in the best interests of safety and the public's ability to participate, which is limited by weather conditions.
Village Hall will close at 5:00 p.m. today, instead of 7:00 p.m.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning in effect on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 from 9 a.m. until midnight. Snow is likely to fall heavily at times from late Tuesday morning through early Tuesday evening and is likely to impact both rush hours. Accumulation rates of 1 to 1.5 inches per hour are possible at times, making snow removal difficult and travel extremely dangerous. Snow accumulation of 6 to 9 inches is expected with locally higher amounts possible.
If a storm hits with heavy wet snow during the rush hours, motorists should expect snow packed roads due to the challenges of plowing during these busy travel times. Travel times will be slower during these periods, so allow extra time and exercise caution if you're on the road. Today might be a good day to stock up on essentials given the intensity of the winter storm forecasted for our area.
The Village is monitoring multiple weather reporting services to stay a step ahead of the advancing storm. The Snow Removal plan is reviewed yearly and is formulated to maintain safe travel routes throughout town. We are committed to achieving the following results:
- All through streets cleared within 12 hours after the storm ends
- All cul de sacs and dead end streets cleared within 18 hours after the storm ends
