Downers Grove Police were notified on December 4, 2012, at 6:38 p.m., of a suspicious incident that occurred after school in the area of 61st Street and Belmont Road.
A 13 year-old girl who had just been dropped off by the school bus was waiting to cross the street when a vehicle drove past her heading north on Belmont Road. As the vehicle passed, the lone male occupant waved at her and made a U-turn proceeding south past her. The vehicle then made another U-turn and stopped at the curb next to her, where the man rolled down the passenger side window and offered her a ride. After the girl said no, the man asked her to get into the car. The girl walked away from the vehicle and pulled out her cell phone to call her mother, at which point the vehicle left northbound from the location.
Police are attempting to locate the driver who is described as having a dark complexion and is possibly of Middle Eastern decent with facial characteristics similar to the composite sketch. He is believed to be 44-55 years old with short black hair, some gray hair, and stubble on his upper lip in the mustache area. He was wearing silver-rimmed, square glasses and a light tan jacket at the time of the incident.
The vehicle is described as a newer model Chevrolet Impala that is gold or tan in color and is similar to the vehicle pictured. The vehicle is in good condition and had a partial Illinois Plate number of 45.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Downers Grove Police Department at (630) 434-5600 or 911.
Police have increased patrols in the area and at all local schools. Everyone is asked to remind children to be aware of strangers and report any concerns immediately to police.
