In an effort to collect as much feedback as possible to update the Bike and Pedestrian Plan, the Village will host a group bicycle ride on Saturday, September 15, 2012, immediately following Coffee with the Council at the McCollum Park picnic pavilion, located near the south parking lot. The ride will take place at a leisurely pace on Village streets with predominantly low traffic volume.
Riders will leave McCollum Park at 10:00 a.m. and travel north along Fairmount to Maple, through downtown Downers Grove, and head south on Dunham Road to return to McCollum Park. a total of approximately 7 miles or 90 minutes. Four stops are planned along the way to talk about improvement options and collect input from participants. A shorter ride option is also available.
Bike helmets are recommended and riders are asked to follow all laws and safety instructions throughout the ride.
Last August, the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning awarded a grant to the Village to update the existing Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan. The three main objectives of the plan are to develop a comprehensive biking and walking network, to increase safety throughout the village by developing a public education and outreach plan, and to market bicycling and walking throughout the community as viable transportation options.
