Labor Day Traffic Initiative

The Downers Grove Police Department is participating in a year-long initiative that focuses on impaired driving and seat belt enforcement on specific holidays, including Labor Day. Officers will be working saturation patrols that target impaired drivers and seat belt enforcement zones. This initiative is in partnership with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), and is funded with an IDOT traffic grant totaling $33,000.00.

While celebrating during the holiday, please use caution when you are on the road.

• Plan a safe way home before the fun begins
• Before drinking, designate a sober drive.
• If you see a drunk driver on the road, call 9-1-1 and report their location immediately.
• Wear safety belts - every trip, every seat location, every time - it's the best defense against a drunk driver.
