Electric Supplier Choice Confirmation

Residents are receiving letters from ComEd, confirming the switch of energy supplier to First Energy, in accordance with the Village's municipal aggregation program. A copy of the letter is attached.

Municipal aggregation is a program that allows the Village of Downers Grove to seek group buying benefits for electricity supply on behalf of residents and small businesses. Under state law, the Village was required to seek voter approval through a referendum. After voters approved the referendum on March 20, 2012, the Village sought competitive bids from approved suppliers. FirstEnergy Solutions provided the lowest bid, at a rate of 4.75 cents per kilowatt hour for a two-year contract.

Residents and small businesses will see significant savings on their bills, while still receiving the same electrical delivery service from ComEd. The new rate will be reflected in the Electricity Supply Services portion of the ComEd bill and there are no additional fees associated with participation in the Village's program. There will be no break or outage in electricity service when the switch to FirstEnergy takes place.

Although the rate is guaranteed by FirstEnergy Solutions for two years, the contract will be terminated if for any reason the ComEd rate falls below FirstEnergy's rate.
