Belmont Road Update
Last updated: Communications Director |
The limited opening of Belmont Road to two lanes, is expected to occur on Wednesday, October 26, 2011, after 9:00 a.m. Unsatisfactory weather conditions have prevented the limited opening from occurring sooner. Crews working on the Belmont Road Underpass took advantage of a break in the weather and began paving the roadway.
The intersection of Hitchcock and Belmont is scheduled to close Tuesday, October 25. Hitchcock will be closed to traffic for 2 to 3 weeks in order to begin lowering the elevation of Hitchcock to meet the new Belmont Road profile.
Overall, the project is 75% complete and on track to fully open in 2013, ahead of schedule.
When completed, the underpass will offer a variety of benefits including:
- Improved vehicular and pedestrian safety by eliminating an existing at-grade rail crossing at Belmont Road.
- Faster emergency response times for Fire, EMS and Police personnel by reducing delays when crossing the tracks at Belmont Road.
- More efficient north-south traffic flow on the west side of the Village.
- Heightened desirability for the Ellsworth Industrial Park by increasing accessibility to the park.
