On August 3, 2010, the Downers Grove Village Council approved a three-year contract with 9-1-1 Emergency Dispatch Operators, the first since the employees unionized in December 2008. The 11 dispatch operators in the bargaining unit are represented by the Fraternal Order of Police Labor Council.
During the course of negotiations, dispatch operator salaries were evaluated and compared to comparable sized agencies. The analysis concluded that Village salaries fell significantly below market. Dispatch operators have not received a raise in the last two years.
Parties agreed to a salary range of $42,359-$59,822. The salary range will not change over the term of the contract which runs from May 1, 2010 to April 30, 2013.
Village Manager Dave Fieldman said “The approved contract is fair and allows the Village to retain our existing employees that have provided exceptional services to the community. Further, from a financial perspective, the contract is consistent with the FY10 Municipal Budget which includes expense reductions of $2.6 million.”
