On Thursday, July 22, 2010, Downers Grove Police Officer Randall J. Caudill was taken into custody by the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office and charged with four counts of Official Misconduct, which is a Class 3 Felony.
“The charges against Officer Caudill are obviously a disappointment,” stated Mayor Sandack. “However, I continue to have great faith in the Downers Grove Police Department and the highly professional personnel that work tirelessly for our community every day and night.”
The Downers Grove Police Department is a nationally accredited law enforcement agency, recognized for sound policies and procedures by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The department was most recently reaccredited in 2009.
The Village will continue to work cooperatively with the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office and State’s Attorney’s Office to ensure that justice is served in regard to this case.
Media inquiries are being taken by the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office.
Update
As of August 5, 2010, Officer Caudill has resigned.
