Sanitary District Projects 2009/2010

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) is responsible for administering funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 for water supply and wastewater infrastructure in Illinois.

Since program application details were announced by IEPA in March, 2009, the Downers Grove Sanitary District has rapidly completed all application requirements for projects previously identified for implementation over the next several years, demonstrating the project readiness needed to secure funding under the program.

Sanitary District Projects include the replacement, rehabilitation and upgrade of sanitary sewers and pumping stations needed to restore failing infrastructure and improve system performance during storm events and power outages, and improvements at the wastewater treatment center to improve reliability and reduce energy needs. Projects are expected to start construction in the fall of 2009, with final completion scheduled for the summer of 2010.
