The Village of Downers Grove has just received word that they will receive a grant from the United States Department of Energy in the amount of $232,100. The grant award is in conjunction with the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. “This is fantastic news which underscores the (Village) Council’s commitment to environmental sustainability and staff’s aggressive pursuit of federal stimulus funding,” stated Mayor Ron Sandack.
The grant will fund two projects. The first will support the installation of energy efficient lighting at Village Hall, 801 Burlington Ave., Fire Station #3 at 3900 Highland Ave. and the Main Street Train Station. The second project will support the installation of solar furnaces at six of the Village’s pumping stations, plus the Fleet Services building and the Public Works facility at 5101 Walnut Ave.
