The Village will be installing temporary traffic calming devices on Concord Drive from Cambridge Road to Camden Road beginning on August 21, 2009. Work should take about 2-3 days to complete.
The devices being deployed are known as Traffic Speed Cushions or Traffic Speed Humps. These devices are made from recycled rubber materials, and have been shown to reduce vehicular speeds and increase driver awareness.
These traffic calming devices will be in use for a period of 6-8 weeks. Staff will conduct before and after traffic data analysis in order to determine if a permanent installation would effectively reduce traffic speeds and increase safety or if an alternate temporary measure could be more effective. A recommendation will be formulated and sent to the Transportation and Parking Commission (TAP) for consideration following the data analysis.
