The Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway (BNSF) has advised the Village that they will be working on the tracks in Downers Grove from August 18-20, 2009.
BNSF workers and equipment will be replacing railroad ties along Tracks 2 and 3. The new ties will be stored at the Forest Avenue Yard in Downers Grove. Maintenance on the Downers Grove portion of the BNSF line is part of the overall project now underway to replace railroad ties between Aurora and Halsted Street in Chicago.
Work will be performed from approximately 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., to avoid inconveniencing motorists during the morning and evening rush hours.
Please note: Trains are REQUIRED by the Federal Railroad Administration to blow their horns as they approach work crews along the tracks. The Village has no authority to silence the horns.
- BNSF will provide flagmen at each crossing to allow for the safe movement of vehicles as their equipment passes these intersections.
- Inter track fencing will be removed to facilitate the track work and will not be replaced until all work has been completed.
- Overall there will be 6,353 ties replaced from Belmont to Fairview in Downers Grove using the machine pictured below.
