Village pursues stimulus funding

In November 2008, the Village developed a list of Construction Ready Capital Projects worthy of federal stimulus funding. The list was compiled from the Community Investment Program, the Village document summarizing all major capital projects over the next five years. The project list was quickly forwarded to the DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference and shortly thereafter to state legislators, alerting them to the need for these vital infrastructure projects.

Now that the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) has been signed by President Obama, Downers Grove is well positioned to receive stimulus funding. This funding will be available through regular channels like the Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference and the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning. Staff is already working with these agencies in preparing the required applications for funds.

The State of Illinois has recently launched Recovery.Illinois.gov, a web site created as a clearing house for ARRA funding information. Village staff is closely reviewing the information provided on the site and will follow-up with the appropriate agencies.
