Project Summary

The purpose of the project is to thoroughly study traffic issues in the neighborhood bounded by Main Street, Fairview Avenue, Maple Avenue and 55th Street.   The goal is to alleviate issues caused by speeding, cut-though traffic, pedestrian/traffic conflicts and intersection controls.

A detailed study of the intersection at 55th and Washington Streets will also be undertaken as part of the project.  This will involve a thorough investigation of conditions that may be contributing to vehicle accidents at this location and recommendations for mitigating those accidents.

The Village authorized contractor for the project is KLOA, Inc. of Rosemont, Il.  Data collection and analysis will include temporary electronic traffic counters as well as manual pedestrian and vehicular counts at intersections.  Roadway measurements, intersection layouts and parking data will also be examined.

The purpose of the meeting is to present preliminary study findings to the neighbors, and to receive public comments and suggestions. Village Staff will be in attendance along with our Traffic Consultant to discuss any specific concerns within the study area. The study area is bounded by 55th Street, Fairview Avenue, Maple Avenue, and Main Street.

11/16/2010 Traffic data collection for the 2010 Neighborhood Traffic Study has been completed by way of electronic modules attached to the pavement. In addition,  the Village's traffic consultant conducted pedestrian intersection counts, surveyed existing traffic controls and measured intersection geometry.

Next actions include a meeting with staff to discuss data collection efforts to date. Following that meeting, a neighborhood meeting is anticipated with the Transportation and Parking (TAP) Commission in early January 2011, where residents can listen to the project findings and make comments and suggestions for improvements.
