VILLAGE OF DOWNERS GROVE
801 Burlington Avenue, Downers Grove, IL 60515
Republic collects five days a week in Downers Grove. Refuse, yard waste and recycling are collected on the same day each week. To find your collection day, view either the Basic Collection Map, which shows street boundaries for each collection day, or the Detailed Collection Map, which shows all Village streets.
The following holidays are observed by Republic Services:
- New Year’s Day
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day (July 4)
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
When one of these holidays falls on a collection day or on a Sunday, and the legal holiday is Monday, collections are delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.
There is no limit to the number of items that may be put out for collection, however the following rules apply:
- Items must be at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on your scheduled collection day, but no earlier than 12:00 noon the day before.
- Empty garbage cans, cart and recycling containers must be removed from the curb by 12:00 midnight on the day of collection.
- Bags, cans and bundles of material may not exceed 33 gallons in volume and 50 pounds in weight. Contents of cans may not extend above the rim.
Residents and building owners are reminded to clear snow away from refuse and recycling containers to avoid a missed collection. If the container is not accessible or visible, it may not be emptied. Call Republic Services at (630) 964-3232 to report a missed collection.
Materials that do not fit in a container, such as small amounts of construction debris and rolls of carpeting, must be securely tied in bundles not exceeding 3 feet in diameter, 5 feet in length, and 50 pounds in weight. A sticker must be affixed to each bundle. TIRES ARE NOT ACCEPTED.
The collection of appliances such as refrigerators, stoves, water heaters, etc. must be scheduled in advance by calling Republic Services. White goods must have one sticker affixed for every 50 pounds of weight. Most white goods require 5 stickers.
