The Community Development Department is comprised of Planning and Code Enforcement.
The Community Development Department has many responsibilities throughout the Village organization. Please see the Department Services pages for more information regarding those activities.
The following provides an overview of department responsibilities and services.
- Land-use assistance to Downers Grove business, developers, and residents, reviewing development plans.
- Implementation to demolition/construction ordinances, with approvals from the Mayor and Village Council, to regulate demolition and construction sites within the Village, with a view toward vastly improving both the appearance of construction sites and the managment of construction debis.
- Reviews of submitted building plans from anyone who builds a new structure or modifies an existing one, including electrical, mechanical, and plumbing.
- Inspections of existing buildings and infrastructure to ensure the safety of building inhabitants and those dependent upon the infrastructure.
- Contracts with an independent elevator company to perform semi-annual inspections of all elevators within the Village.
- Conducts an electrical testing program.
- Assists residents and businesses with the Village’s Historic Preservation regulations.
