Booking Arrestees
Some arrestees have to be put in cells while being processed, where they are not visible to officers and may cause harm to themselves. When prisoners are left in the open booking room area, they may irritate others nearby.
Processing Evidence
The movement and processing of evidence is inefficient and increases the chances of it being tainted or lost due to the separation from the evidence lockers and close proximity of the booking room.
Storing Evidence
Evidence is currently stored in eight separate rooms throughout the Police Station and Village Hall. It takes more time to place and retrieve evidence from the multiple locations than it would in a single location.
Transferring Arrestees from Squad to Booking
The small single-vehicle Sally Port allows only one arrestee to be transported directly to the booking room at a time. Additional arrestees are transported from the public parking lot, increasing risks to Officer and public safety.
Interviewing Residents/Customers
Members of the general public in the lobby can overhear interview conversations consisting of personal and sensitive information. If more than one person has to be interviewed, those interviews occur in the lobby.
Conducting Investigations
Due to the size and lack of privacy in the investigations area, investigators are frequently forced to whisper to avoid being heard by suspects in nearby interview rooms and people on the phone will overhear noise in the background during sensitive conversations.
Securely Parking Police Vehicles
Police squad cars are currently parking outdoors throughout the year, limiting the life of the vehicles and potentially slowing response time during periods of inclement weather.
Storing Officer Equipment & Supplies
Officers cannot fit all of their clothing, gear and equipment in the small lockers, which causes them to take it home, leave it in their cars or store it elsewhere.
Responding to Certain Calls from the Station
The location of the station in close proximity to at-grade railroad crossings means that response times are delayed when vehicles dispatched from the station have to wait for a train.
