Cavanaugh L. Gray is a lifelong entrepreneur and small business development specialist with more than two decades of experience implementing strategies that help startups scale. He has served as a business advisor to a Chicago Innovation Award Winner and is author of The Entrepreneurial Spirit Lives (rated a 2016 Amazon Top Read) and Bridging the Entrepreneurial Divide. For more than a decade Cavanaugh has served as an adjunct professor of Marketing & Branding and Entrepreneurship most recently at Loyola University Chicago.
He has a diverse background working in the Marketing, Media/Publishing, Technology, Energy, Nonprofit and Startup Industries. His degrees in Finance, Marketing and a Certification in Entrepreneurial Studies from the University of Illinois at Chicago allow him to bring aunique business perspective to his roles. His expertise centers on helping companies: acquire management expertise and improve management processes; improve their overall marketing return on investment; grow with limited financial resources and investment; identify the resources necessary to help companies grow their businesses.
Cavanaugh has a long-standing commitment to social entrepreneurship and over the years has used small business as a tool for addressing a variety of social issues. He established a nationally recognized nonprofit the Young Entrepreneurs Program (featured in Entrepreneur Magazine) which focused on providing entrepreneurial and financial literacy training as well as alternatives to unemployment, low paying jobs and destructive life choices to students 12-18. His experience helped establish Project Compassion, a community based non-profit organization. Overseeing the efforts of more than 100 volunteers he provided a variety of social services which helped care for, take and keep 65 families out of homelessness. His current efforts focus on helping to spread entrepreneurship, innovation and economic development at the community level on a local, regional and national basis.
