Project Summary

This project involves the reconstruction of commuter Parking Lot H, which is located at the southwest corner of the Belmont railroad crossing. Work includes full pavement replacement, storm sewer replacement, installation of a new and improved lighting system, and installation of a bio swale median. The new parking lot will also include a wheelchair accessible north-south walkway and a higher capacity bike rack next to the station.  The project will be funded by both the Village of Downers Grove and Metra.

Parking  Impacts

Parking at and in the vicinity of Parking Lot H has returned to pre-construction status.  Daily-fee parking spaces are now available along the south end of Parking Lot H.  Additional Lot H permit parking is no longer available.  The temporary Overlay Parking Lot H lot off Chase Ave is now closed.

Last week, the contractor installed handrails. This week, the contractor began landscape restoration as well as other miscellaneous items. Next week, the contractor is expected to continue landscape restoration and begin working on various punch list items. We do not anticipate any impacts to parking while this work is taking place.

12/17/2015

The contractor has completed pavement striping for Phase 2, installation of daily-fee signs for Phase 2, and installation of the lighting system for Phases 1 and 2. Restoration of disturbed landscape areas will continue throughout the winter as weather permits. Any remaining landscape restoration, including installation of the bio-swale near the center of the site, will be completed in spring 2016.

12/4/2015 

This week, the contractor completed striping for Phase 2, continued installation of posts and signs for daily-fee spaces, continued installation of lighting system, and began restoration of disturbed landscape areas.

Next week, the contractor is expected to complete installation of the lighting system and continue landscape restoration.

11/20/2015 

 

This week, the contractor completed placement of asphalt for Phases 2 and 3 and completed striping for Phase 2. The contractor also continued installation of light pole foundations and poles.

Next week, the contractor is expected to continue installation of the lighting system, continue restoration of disturbed areas, and begin installation of posts for daily-fee number signs.

11/13/2015  

This week, the contractor completed pavement removal and placement of stone base for Phase 3 and placement of curb and gutter and sidewalk for Phases 1 and 2. Placement of the asphalt for Phases 2 and 3 this week was delayed by weather.

Next week, the contractor is expected to complete placement of the first layer of asphalt for Phases 2 and 3. Please see "Project Alerts" section above for information regarding impacts to traffic due to Phase 3 work. Phase 3 is expected to be open to traffic next week.

11/6/2015 The contractor placed the first layer of asphalt for Phase 2 last week.

This week, the contractor completed storm sewer installation for Phase 2 and began pavement removal and placement of stone base for Phase 3. Next week, the contractor is expected to complete placement of the first layer of asphalt for Phase 2 and begin placement of the first layer of asphalt for Phase 3. 10/30/2015 

This week, the contractor completed placement of stone base for Phase 2. Placement of asphalt has been delayed by weather.

10/23/2015 This week, the contractor completed earth excavation and began stone placement for Phase 2. 9/4/2015 

This week, the contractor placed final lift of asphalt and striped Phase 1 of construction. Contractor has begun pavement and curb removal for Phase 2.

Next week, the contractor is expected to continue removal of pavement and curb and begin installation of storm sewer for Phase 2.

8/28/2015 

This week, the contractor completed fine grading of the stone base and placement of the first lift of asphalt for Phase 1. Next week, the contractor is expected to complete asphalt placement, stripe and prepare Phase 1 of construction for commuter traffic. The actual transition date from Phase 1 to Phase 2 will be posted on the website along with detailed information regarding impacts to traffic.


Please be advised construction phasing, temporary off-site parking and planned access into and out of Parking Lot H has changed. 8/21/2015 

This week, the contractor has continued fine grading the stone base for new asphalt.

Next week, the contractor is expected to finish fine grading of the stone base, place asphalt, stripe and prepare Phase 1 of construction for commuter traffic. The actual transition date from Phase 1 to Phase 2 will be posted on the website along with detailed information regarding impacts to traffic.

8/19/2015 Special Update (alert): Temporary daily-fee parking on Haddow Ave west of Belmont Rd will no longer be available beginning Wednesday, August 26th, 2015. This location will return to 4-hour parking from 6am to 6pm on Wednesday, August 26th, 2015.

8/14/2015 Placement of curb and gutter and sidewalk in Phase 1 has been completed. Preparation for the installation of light pole bases is underway.

7/31/2015 Excavation for and preparation of sub-grade for new pavement, curb and gutter, and sidewalk is complete for Phase 1. Placement of stone base, curb and gutter, and sidewalk is underway for phase 1.

6/26/2015 The contractor has mobilized and has begun pavement and curb and gutter removal for Phase 1 of construction.

6/12/2015   Contractor is scheduled to mobilize to site on 6/22/15.  "The Parking Lot H Improvements - Parking Guide During Construction" will be in effect starting the morning of 6/22/15.  

5/29/2015  Construction contract has been awarded and project scheduling is underway. 

April 2015 Bids have been opened; Contract currently under review.
