Project Summary

This work will include the resurfacing of Prairie Avenue from Belmont Road to Main Street. This includes the spot-repair of curb, sidewalk replacement for ADA compliance, grinding the existing top layer of asphalt, pavement patching as needed, two new layers of asphalt with adjustments to utility structures as needed and parkway restoration in disturbed areas.

This contract also incorporates elements of the Neighborhood Traffic Management (CIP Project TR-024) program. This includes the installation of curb bump-outs at Woodward, Stonewall, Lee & Seely, and center medians at Oakwood, Saratoga & Forest (See graphic below). The contract also includes enhanced striping with centerlines and parking boxes from Belmont to Montgomery, and “sharrows” from Belmont to Lee as approved by the Village Council in 2021 as part of the Prairie Avenue Corridor Improvements and Neighborhood Traffic Study Area 7.

Landscapers are continuing to come onsite to water the sod. Any sod that does not establish in a growing, healthy condition will be replaced prior to project closeout. Clean up "punch list" items will be addressed and inspected and is expected to be complete by 10/7.

9/16/22

Sod was installed in remaining prepped areas on 9/14. Any sod that does not establish in a growing, healthy condition will be replaced prior to project closeout. Clean up "punch list" items will be addressed and inspected following the completion of sod installation.

9/9/22

Sod is expected to be installed within the next two to three weeks. Crews will address minor cleanup items throughout the project as schedule permits.

9/2/22

Landscapers were in town the week of 8/29 to begin prepping for sod placement and replacement. This work is expected to continue the week of 9/6.

8/26/22

Landscapers will be in town beginning the week of 8/29 for parkway restoration and dead sod replacement. Bricks at the new asphalt transition will also be reset the week of 8/29. Any sod that does not establish in a growing, healthy condition will be replaced prior to project closeout.

8/19/22

  • Pavement striping took place the week of 8/15.

Surface paving was completed this week. Pavement striping is tentatively scheduled for Monday, 8/15. This work is weather-dependent and subject to change. Sod will be placed when temperatures are back within specifications (at least September). Any sod that does not establish will be replaced prior to project closeout.

8/5/22

  • The first layer of asphalt was paved on Tuesday 8/2 and Wednesday 8/3. Utility crews adjusted in-pavement structures 8/4 and 8/5 in preparation for final surface paving. Traffic signal detector loops were installed 8/4. Joint sealant was applied to the paving seams on 8/5.
  • Surface asphalt paving is weather dependent and will either take place on Monday 8/8 and Tuesday 8/9 or on Wednesday 8/10 and Thursday 8/11, weather pending. Please drive slowly as there will be fresh oil applications in preparation for the paving.
  • Pavement striping is tentatively scheduled for the week of August 15th.
  • Sod will be placed when temperatures are back within specifications (at least September). Any sod that does not establish will be replaced prior to project closeout.

 

7/29/22

 

  • Pavement grinding took place the week of 7/25.
  • Grinding will continue on Monday, August 1st. The first layer of asphalt paving is tentatively scheduled to start on Tuesday, August 2nd. Please drive slowly as there will be fresh oil applications in preparation for the paving. After the first layer of asphalt is paved, underground crews will be onsite towards the end of the week to reset the in-pavement structures in preparation for final surface paving. Crews will also be installing detector loops at the Belmont signal.
  • Joint sealant is tentatively scheduled to be applied to the paving seams on Friday, August 5th. Side streets will tentatively be prepped for paving on Saturday, August 6th.
  • Sod is still planning on being placed when temperatures are back within specifications (at least September). Any sod that does not establish will be replaced prior to project closeout.

 

7/22/22

  • Underground crews were onsite this week to lower in-pavement structures in preparation for road grinding.
  • Grinding is tentatively scheduled to start Tuesday, July 26th. Following road grinding, there will be spot-repair pavement patching and then the first "level" layer of asphalt paving.
  • The first layer of asphalt paving is tentatively scheduled to start on Monday, August 1st. Please drive slowly as there will be fresh oil applications in preparation for the paving. Sod is still planning on being placed when temperatures are back within specifications (at least September). Any sod that does not establish will be replaced prior to project closeout.

7/15/22

Pavement grinding is tentatively scheduled to start Monday, July 25th. In advance of this work, underground crews will be lowering in-pavement structures.

Resurfacing activities are on hold due to a lack of availability of construction materials.

6/17/22

The contractor completed concrete work on 6/16. Road grinding is expected to take place the week of 6/20, weather pending. It is likely the grinding will be towards the end of the week, Wednesday 6/22 through Friday 6/24. Following grinding, the first layer of new asphalt will be paved. Fresh Oil signs will be posted in advance of paving work.

6/10/22

The contractor resumed work on 6/9 and continued with curb and sidewalk removal and replacement. Pavement was also excavated for medians. The contractor is planning on pouring concrete on Saturday, 6/11 and is expected to continue concrete removal and replacement the week of 6/13.

6/3/22

Rain has impacted the contractor's schedule. Concrete work is expected to resume the week of 6/6, weather permitting, to begin construction for concrete medians and to continue concrete curb and sidewalk work.

5/27/22

Concrete work is expected to resume on Wednesday, 6/1, weather permitting.

Landscape restoration began this week in the areas where concrete was repaired. Concrete work is on hold for the week of 5/23.

4/29/22

  • Underground storm sewer work finished on 4/25. Concrete removals began 4/27.
  • Concrete removal and replacement will continue for the week of 5/2.

 

4/22/22

  • Underground storm sewer work took place the week of 4/18. Storm sewer work is expected to continue on Monday, 4/25, weather pending. Concrete work has been on hold but is expected to begin on the south side of the street on Wednesday, 4/27, weather pending.
  • Residents whose driveway access will be impacted by the concrete work will receive notification in the form of a door hanger 24-48 hours prior to curb removals taking place, and will be asked to park on the street until driveway access is restored.

4/15/22

Sawcutting and layout began on Thursday, 4/14. The week of 4/18 will have underground storm sewer work taking place as well as the start of concrete curb and sidewalk work.

General construction notices were mailed to residents in the vicinity of the project. Initial construction activities will include traffic control, utility locating, and sawcutting.

A preconstruction meeting took place on March 23rd. The contractor is planning to begin work the week of April 18th, weather permitting.
