The Downers Grove Village Operations Center (VOC) is now capable of receiving wireless fire alarm transmissions from businesses. The links to the applications below are strictly for businesses/buildings who already have a fire alarm system in place and are switching to wireless transmission. For new systems, please contact Community Development at 630-434-5515.
What is a wireless fire alarm transmission?
A wireless fire alarm transmission is the transmission of an alarm from your Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP) to the VOC via radio transmission. Your business currently transmits your fire alarms via telephone lines.
What does the new wireless fire alarm ordinance mean to the business owner?
The switch to wireless monitoring provides benefits for both the business owner and the Village dispatch center:
- Elimination of business phone lines and their monthly costs.
- Reduction of false alarms or trouble with system signals that occur frequently, especially during storms.
What is the cost for monitoring the wireless transmission?
Please see “Annual surveillance fee for wireless system” on the User-Fee, License and Fine Schedule.
The Village of Downers Grove will continue to invoice the businesses directly for the annual monitoring charge. The Village of Downers Grove does not charge any other monitoring fees.
Will my business be required to make the switch to wireless alarms?
No. The decision is entirely up to the individual business owners. The program is voluntary. It is permissible to maintain your current system if that is your preference. However, if you do decide to switch to wireless monitoring you will need to contact your current fire alarm company and inform them that you wish to switch to wireless monitoring within the Village.
